The Health Department of Minas Gerais is monitoring the case of a patient with covid-19 who arrived in Belo Horizonte after leaving Congo, Africa, and passing through Turkey, on November 17th. The 33-year-old woman presented symptoms as soon as she arrived in the city, last Monday (Nov 22) and sought care at the UPA at Odilon Behrens Hospital this Sunday (Nov 28).
She underwent tests that confirmed the positive diagnosis for the coronavirus and was transferred to Hospital Eduardo de Menezes. According to the city hall, the patient is not vaccinated. This is the second suspected case of the Ômicron variant in the country.
The first suspected case of the new variant is a passenger who landed over the weekend at Cumbica airport, in Guarulhos (SP), and only discovered that he had a coronavirus after taking the exam, on his own, at the international airport. The test result has already been sent to the Adolfo Lutz Institute, where it will undergo genomic sequencing. Only then will it be possible to know which strain of the coronavirus the passenger was infected with on Wednesday (01.dec).
For the time being, passengers arriving from other countries need only present at airports a negative test result for covid-19. In the opinion of infectologists, the requirements to enter Brazil need to be stricter, in an attempt to close the loop against the new variant.
The Ministry of Health has not yet positioned itself on the obligation of proof and said that if there is a third wave, the country is prepared. In São Paulo, Mayor Ricardo Nunes said he could back down from the decision to make the use of masks more flexible as of December 11th.
