After investigation by state, regional and municipal immunization teams, it was found that 28-year-old lawyer Bruno Graf died from side effects caused by AstraZeneca’s Covid-19 vaccine.
The information is contained in the epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate of Epidemiological Surveillance (DIVE), linked to the Superintendence of Health Surveillance of Santa Catarina, belonging to the State Health Department.
– This is a 28-year-old man, resident in Blumenau, who started symptoms (chills, feverish sensation and headache) on August 23, progressing to death on August 26. This outcome was triggered by a condition of thrombosis of central nervous system with associated thrombocytopenia – informs the document.
The bulletin also cites the death of a 27-year-old woman, with reactions similar to those of Bruno, after receiving the same immunizing agent against Covid.
– Both deaths were temporally associated with the AstraZeneca vaccine, and these two cases were confirmed and their outcomes were related to Thrombosis Syndrome with Thrombocytopenia (TTS). TTS is defined by the presence of thrombosis/thromboembolism, usually in unusual places, such as the cerebral venous sinus or the splanchnic veins with severe thrombocytopenia after vaccination with a non-replicating adenovirus vector vaccine against Covid-19 – says another excerpt.
Even so, the DIVE thought it best to emphasize that the two cases that were causally related to the vaccine represent an incidence rate of 0.05 cases per 100,000 doses applied.
– These AEFVs (Adverse Post-Vaccination Events) are described in the medical literature as rare events and associated with viral vector platform vaccines, of which the vaccines from AstraZeneca and Janssen laboratories are the only ones distributed in Brazil by the Ministry’s National Immunization Program of Health – concluded the DIVE.
The result puts an end to the search by Arlene Ferrari Graf, Bruno’s mother, for the truth about her son’s death. Since August, Arlene has been sharing her account, having even written a letter to Health Minister Marcelo Queiroga.
