The number of confirmed deaths from dengue in Brazil in 2024 surpassed the mark of 3 thousand people. According to updated data from the Arbovirus Panel, from the Ministry of Health, as of this Friday (24) there were 3,038 deaths due to the disease. The number is almost three times higher than last year, when 1,179 deaths were recorded.
Also according to the Ministry of Health, the number of confirmed cases in 2024 is 5,213,564 as of this Friday. In February, the Secretary of Health Surveillance at the Ministry of Health, Ethel Maciel, stated that the ministry’s estimate was that, in 2024, the country would register 4.2 million cases. In other words, even before the end of May the number had already been exceeded.
The state with the highest number of deaths this year is São Paulo, with 812 deaths as of this Friday. Next comes Minas Gerais, with 525 deaths; Paraná, with 372; and the Federal District, with 365. On the other hand, the states of the North and Northeast, with the exception of Bahia, are those with the lowest numbers of confirmed deaths, with emphasis on Acre and Roraima, which had no deaths from dengue in 2024.
