Volunteer doctors led by the Brazilian Society of Dermatology – Rio Grande do Sul Section (SBD-RS) have been in action for practically fifteen days, providing dermatological care to the homeless in shelters in the capital and in the interior of the state. Professionals are working in various locations in Porto Alegre, including churches, parks, clubs and schools, offering specialized medical care to flood victims. To date, approximately 400 dermatologists are involved in the initiative, providing services both in person and online.
With hundreds of services already provided and donations of medicines and medical supplies worth more than R$100,000, the task force led by SBD-RS demonstrates its commitment to providing effective and immediate help to those who need it most.
“We are committed to providing medicines and providing temporary care for situations involving dermatological diseases, ensuring adequate care for flood victims”, highlights Dr. Rosemarie Mazzuco, president of SBD-RS.
The biggest concern is infectious diseases and other skin problems such as pediculosis (lice) and scabies.
Last Friday (17/05), SBD-RS, in collaboration with the president of the Rio Grande do Sul Medical Association (AMRIGS), Dr. Gerson Junqueira Júnior, and the doctor specializing in digestive endoscopy and general surgery, Dr. Luciana Figueiredo, organized an important action to send donations to Caxias do Sul. Donations will be destined for shelters and rescue sites for the homeless, in a clear demonstration of solidarity and mutual support in times of crisis.
SBD RS is collecting essential materials for dressings and medicines, aiming to help volunteers who are on the front line of care. Items such as cephalexin, amoxicillin, saline solution, gloves, masks, mupirocin, verutex, doxycycline or azithromycin are essential to ensure adequate care for flood victims.
