The Municipal Secretariat for Animal Protection (Sempa) and the Municipal Council for Animal Protection and Welfare (COMBEM) announce that the animal shelter at BIG/Carrefour has reached its maximum capacity for new shelters and for the sake of the well-being of the pets , you will not be able to receive any more animals. At the moment, the place hosts 1,200 rescued animals, saved from the flood and/or abandoned.
In total, Sempa and COMBEM estimate that more than 5 thousand animals are in shelters managed by the city hall and by a group of volunteers for the animal cause, in addition to other pets that are with owners or that have been rescued and are in the 125 shelters. Animals that may be collected will continue to receive veterinary care at BIG’s accommodation.
People who need to identify their pets and/or adopt a friend can go to BIG/Carrefour on Avenida Imperatriz Leopoldina, 45, São José neighborhood. The time to pick them up is between 11am and 7pm.
