After being elected host country by the International Football Federation (Fifa), Brazil will host the Women’s World Cup in 2027. The election took place this Friday (17) during the 74th FIFA Congress, in Bangkok, Thailand.
The Brazilian candidacy won the dispute with a joint candidacy from Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. Brazil, which has already hosted two editions of the Men’s Football World Cup, received 119 votes, while the European candidate received 78 votes.
The 2027 Women’s Football World Cup will be the tenth edition of the tournament. Before arriving in Australia and New Zealand, in 2023, the competition had already been hosted by China, Sweden, the United States, Germany, Canada and France.
The Spanish team is the current world champion, joining the United States, Germany, Japan and Norway as the teams that have lifted the much-coveted FIFA trophy. The United States has the highest number of titles (4), followed by Germany, which was champion twice.
The Brazilian team is one of the teams that has participated, to date, in all editions of the Women’s World Cup. With the venue for the 2027 tournament defined, Brazil’s tenth participation is guaranteed, as the home team. The Brazilian team has already reached the podium twice, but has never lifted the championship trophy.
