The Ulysses Geremia Cinema Room, in Caxias do Sul, is preparing to receive two new attractions from April 25th: the French family drama “Tudo ou Nada” and the Japanese feature film “Plano 75”. The works promise to move people and provoke reflections on relevant themes in today’s society.
“All or Nothing”: A fight for child custody
Starring award-winning French actress Virginie Efira, it narrates the journey of a single mother in her fight against the French authorities for custody of her son. After Sofiane, a 6-year-old boy, has an accident while alone at home, his mother Sylvie is reported and he is sent to a foster home. Supported by her brother, a lawyer, and the love of her children, Sylvie is determined to win a difficult legal battle and regain custody of her youngest child. The film was shown at the Cannes Festival, in the Un Certain Regard selection, in 2023. It received the Prix d’Ornano Valenti – Best First Film at the Deauville American Film Festival.
“Plan 75”: A reflection on aging and euthanasia
The feature film is presented in a dystopian scenario, where Plan 75 is created, being a plan by the Japanese government to deal with the aging population, through voluntary euthanasia of the elderly. The direction and script are in charge of Chieko Hayakawa, known for titles such as Niagara (2013), Renoir and Ten Years Japan (2018).
