This Thursday, the 4th, a performance by musician Paulinho Parada and guests, with a repertoire of samba, choro and MPB marked the resumption of cultural attractions in the Porto Alegre Public Market Events Space. Mayor Sebastião Melo and the secretaries of Administration, André Barbosa, and of Culture and Creative Economy, Henry Ventura, visited the site.
The completion of the revitalization service carried out by the Secretariat of Administration and Heritage makes it possible to resume cultural programming in the traditional shopping and gastronomy center of Porto Alegre.
The intervention, which began at the end of 2023, included the installation of two drywall walls, placement of a mural that presents the history of the oldest Public Market in Brazil (opened in 1869), repairs to the lighting in the north quadrant and the replacement of the painting of light. The resources invested come from a parliamentary amendment by the Chamber of Councilors and the Real Estate Heritage Fund (Fun-Patrimônio), totaling an expense of R$91,216.78.
Non-profit entities and public institutions will be able to use the space free of charge. A fee will be charged for use for commercial purposes, the amounts of which will be reverted to the Market Fund and applied to building improvement and maintenance actions. Those interested in occupying the location must fill out the application form available on the website of the Events Office of the Secretariat of Economic Development and Tourism (Smdet), as determined by Decree 21,126/2021.
Attractions – Cultural presentations, exhibitions and product and service fairs that will be promoted in the revitalized space add to the well-known attractions of the Public Market. The schedule will be published by the Association of Permissionaires and will be available on the social media of the Secretariat of Administration and Heritage.
