The Canoas Animal Welfare Department (SMBEA) will hold a special Easter edition of the Animal Adoption Fair this Saturday (23). The event will take place from 10am to 4pm, at the SMBEA premises, located at Avenida Boqueirão, 1986, in the Igara neighborhood.
During the fair, in addition to the opportunity to adopt dogs and cats that are looking for a new home, there will be SMBEA teams available to provide guidance to the public and answer questions.
Responsible adoption
This special edition will focus on the importance of consciously adopting pets, highlighting the need for future owners to be fully prepared to make the commitment to care for these animals responsibly.
“Animals should not be seen as occasional gifts, but rather as living beings that require care, attention and love throughout their lives”, highlighted biologist Renata Gautier.
Intoxication
In addition to caring for animals and raising awareness about responsible adoption, other precautions are essential in this period approaching Easter. Among them, it is not recommended to give chocolate to animals. They are toxic to dogs and cats.
“Chocolate contains a substance called theobromine, which is easily metabolized by humans, but can be highly harmful to domestic animals. They metabolize theobromine more slowly, which can lead to food poisoning, causing vomiting, diarrhea, increased heart rate, tremors and, in severe cases, convulsions and even death”, reinforced the biologist.
Adopter rights
The secretariat is committed to providing some services for guardians who adopt animals at SMBEA. These include all the vaccines scheduled for the first year of life, if the puppy has not yet received the vaccines. Castrations and veterinary consultations are also offered free of charge.
