An English paramedic was treating a patient who was suffering a cardiac arrest when he himself ended up having a heart attack. Both were treated side by side by the medical team.
The case occurred in August 2022 and, this Sunday (17/3), the two met again. “It was good to talk about the experience of surviving such an impactful event together,” Daisy Devane told the Daily Mail newspaper.
Daisy was just 30 years old when she had a heart attack. She was treated by paramedics at her home and the pain was so bad that she was already passed out when they arrived. About 10 minutes after starting to prepare to take her to the hospital, one of the professionals participating in the care, Jeremy Williams, then 53 years old, also began to feel severe pain in his chest.
Jeremy’s colleagues noticed that he was suffering from cardiac arrest and split up to help his partner and the patient.
The two were taken in the same ambulance to separate hospitals. Williams underwent emergency surgery to have two stents placed to unblock the arteries in his heart.
Daisy, meanwhile, had more complications. She was hospitalized for 33 days and received a pacemaker to stimulate the functioning of her heart muscle.
