The University of Caxias do Sul (UCS) will host a special event on Sunday, March 17, as part of the celebrations marking the start of the academic semester. This event will feature performances by the Municipal Wind Orchestras of Caxias do Sul and Novo Hamburgo, both inaugurating their concert series for 2024. The show, which will bring together more than 70 musicians, will take place at the UCS Teatro, starting at 7pm.
Limited tickets
Entry is free, with the suggestion of donating 1kg of non-perishable food. Tickets are limited and can be purchased at UCS Livraria, at Campus-Headquarters, from Monday to Friday, from 9am to 8pm; at Casa da Cultura Percy Vargas de Abreu e Lima, from Monday to Friday, from 9am to 4pm; and at the Railway Station, from Monday to Friday, from 8:30 am to 5 pm.
Concerto
Under the direction of maestro Gilberto Salvagni, the concert will feature three soloists: Ricardo Ramires, on saxophone; Filipe Berlitz, on vibraphone; and Tiago Fernando Andreola, on double bass. The symphonic bands present a diverse repertoire with works such as Rest, by Frank Tichelli; Cloudburst, by Eric Whitacre; Arabesque, by Samuel R. Hazo; Escapades (from the film “Catch Me If You Can”), by composer John Williams; and Jurassic Park Soundtrack Highlights, by John Williams, arranged by Paul Lavender.
The orchestras
The Caxias do Sul Municipal Wind Orchestra is a reference in Rio Grande do Sul for its excellence in the performance of concert activity, both in classical and popular music. It currently has 36 musicians and performs in different formats, including symphonic band, big band, woodwind orchestra and chamber groups.
The Novo Hamburgo Wind Orchestra completed 71 years of uninterrupted activities in 2023. It presents an instrumental formation structured on wind and percussion instruments, with a repertoire that moves between classical and popular languages.
