Last Sunday, March 3rd, the Rota Romântica Association received representatives from the German city of Emmelshausen, which is a sister city of Nova Petrópolis. Emmelshausen, located in the state of Rheinland Pfalz (Rhineland-Palatinate) in the Hunsrück area, was one of the destinations of the technical trip made along the Romantic Route in 2023.
This meeting was also marked by a mass celebrated at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel, in Pinhal Alto, in the interior of Nova Petrópolis. The mass was celebrated in German by Bishop Emeritus Dom Zeno Hastenteufel. During the ceremony, there was also the opportunity to remember the history of the first mass held in this place 161 years ago, as well as the unique characteristics of the colonization of this area by immigrants from the Hunsrück region.

The Romantic Route delegation, which was in Germany in 2023, met with the group at Moinho Hillebrand for a celebration. Alfred Muders, councilor of Emmelshausen and who led the German delegation, also participated in a meeting with the Romantic Route Association to organize the trip that will take place from August 13th to 27th, 2024, with the option of hiking circuits.
For Terezinha Marina Kuhn Haas, President of Rota Romântica, welcoming the delegation was important to strengthen ties between the regions. “We are organizing ourselves with a new delegation from Rota Romântica to participate in the Weinfest (Wine Festival) festivities when a monument in honor of Nova Petrópolis will also be inaugurated”, she highlights.
Emmelshausen’s delegation is in Nova Petrópolis from March 1st to 6th with an extensive agenda of official, cultural and recreational activities.
