Samba do Quintana, promoted by Casa de Cultura Mario Quintana, in Porto Alegre, returns to Travessa dos Cataventos on Sunday, March 10, opening the 2024 program. The free program features performances by resident band Thiago Ribeiro & Amigos and Andréa Cavalheiro, from 4pm.
Opening the 2024 season, Samba do Quintana will feature the resident band, Thiago Ribeiro & Amigos. Formed by Thiago Ribeiro (vocals and cavaquinho), Fernando Duarte (hand peal, tambourine, bongos), Julia Gregório (flute), Marcelo Rossi (guitar), Paulo Wolff (tambourine, chime and rattles) and Rogério Menezes (tantan). Thiago Ribeiro started playing music at the age of 15, when he got his first cavaquinho, but samba comes from birth, starting with the influence of his father, the guitarist and singer Antonio Lima.
Even as a child, he showed love for the style, drumming everywhere and forming bands with his friends. Among his musical references are names such as Fundo de Quintal, Jovelina Pérola Negra, João Nogueira, Zeca Pagodinho, Arlindo Cruz, Duda do Cavaco, Alemão Charles, Flor de Ébano group, among other local and national artists.
Thiago has been performing professionally for 19 years, in concert halls in Porto Alegre, on the coast and in the interior of the state. He has already accompanied Eliana de Lima twice in performances in the city and opened shows for Fundo de Quintal, Diogo Nogueira and Luiz Carlos da Vila. He is currently recording his first single from his debut album.
