Caxias do Sul, February 23rd – On Friday afternoon, a joint initiative between Traffic Inspection and the Caxias do Sul Municipal Guard resulted in the removal of several abandoned vehicles in the São Cristóvão neighborhood. This measure, based on municipal legislation, aims not only to maintain order on public roads, but also to combat the proliferation of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which transmits diseases such as dengue.
The vehicles collected were in precarious conditions, many of them without registration plates, which constitutes non-compliance with traffic rules. Furthermore, the presence of these cars on the banks of Abramo Perondi Street represented an additional risk, as some were in green areas, where they accumulated stagnant water, providing an environment suitable for the reproduction of the dengue vector mosquito.
The action carried out is in accordance with article 44 of complementary law nº 632/2020, which establishes guidelines for the Municipality’s Code of Postures. According to this legal provision, vehicles abandoned on public roads for more than 15 days without identification plates, or for more than 30 days with identification plates, can be removed by the public authorities.
It is important to highlight the inconvenience and dangers that abandoned cars can pose to the community. In addition to contributing to the emergence of outbreaks of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, these vehicles can be suitable places for criminal activities, in addition to posing physical dangers, especially for children who can get hurt when playing around or inside these cars. Therefore, the removal of these vehicles not only guarantees urban order, but also protects the health and safety of the population, especially children.
