ABBA THE SHOW will perform eight shows in Brazil from April 26th to May 4th, 2024in shows that will feature members of the London National Symphony Orchestra and musicians from the original lineup.
It will be a tribute to the 50th anniversary of the song “Waterloo”, which was originally written as a song for the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest, after the Swedish quartet finished third with “Ring Ring” the previous year. The lyrics of the song are about a woman who surrenders to a man and promises to love him, making reference to the Battle of Waterloo that took place in 1815 and where Napoleon was defeated and was forced to surrender and go into exile on the Island. from Saint Helena. The song proved to be a good choice. It won Melodifestivalen 1974 (in Swedish) in February and won the Eurovision Song Contest 1974 (ESC) on 6 April.
ABBA THE SHOW is a global phenomenon, performing five times as many shows as the original lineup in the 1960s, totaling 714 performances for more than 2 million spectators in more than 40 countries. The success is undeniable, with three sold-out shows at the Hollywood Bowl (2004, 2009 and 2010) and a remarkable performance for more than 70 thousand people in the Anhangabaú valley, in São Paulo, in 2011.
In Brazil, the band will perform its first show in Curitiba, on April 26, 2024 (Saturday), then passing through Florianópolis on April 27, 2024 (Sunday) and Porto Alegre the following day, April 28. Afterwards, the group heads to Goiânia where they will perform on April 30, 2024 (Thursday) and disembark in the largest city in Latin America, São Paulo, for a show on May 1, 2024 (Wednesday). The next day, it’s Brasília’s turn (05/02/2024 – Thursday). On May 3, 2024 (Friday), the band passes through the capital of Minas Gerais Belo Horizonte, ending with a bang in Ribeirão Preto on May 4, 2024 (Saturday).
Formed by Camila Dahlin, Katja Nord Mats Ronander, Janne Schaffer, Uffe Anderson, and musicians who accompanied the quartet, including Lasse Jonsson and Finn Sjobërg, as well as members of the London National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Maestro Matthew Freeman, the show proposes a journey back in time on a magical journey through the history of ABBA, when Bjorn, Benny, Agnetha Frida performed together. A two-hour musical extravaganza featuring greatest hits including “Waterloo,” “SOS,” “Mamma Mia,” “Dancing Queen,” “Money Money Money,” “Knowing Me Knowing You” and more.
