After the Carnival break, the São Leopoldo City Council resumed its activities with a significant decision: the approval of Bill 580/24. This project, proposed by the City Hall, has as its main objective the allocation of resources for the purchase of three new ambulances. This measure is a crucial step towards modernizing the local Mobile Emergency Care Service (SAMU) fleet.
The special urgency with which the project was approved reflects its importance. It includes the inclusion of R$1.3 million in the municipal budget. This amount, coming from federal funds, was guaranteed after the Municipal Health Department (Semsad) of São Leopoldo registered a proposal with the Ministry of Health in 2023.
Currently, the city’s SAMU operates with one Advanced Support Unit and two Basic Support Units. However, the wear and tear of current vehicles, which require frequent maintenance, prompted the Municipal Health Foundation (FMS) to temporarily rent two ambulances. This action aims to ensure the continuity of the emergency service without interruptions due to vehicle failures.
The CEO of the FMS of São Leopoldo, Paula Suseli, highlighted the relevance of this initiative. According to her, the acquisition of new ambulances will not only better equip SAMU, but will also provide better working conditions for the teams, reinforcing the city’s commitment to the health and well-being of its inhabitants.
