The young man who went viral on social media after waking up with black, swollen and bruised eyes still doesn’t know what caused the injuries. This Tuesday (13/2), Gustavo Henrique de Moura Oliveira, 20 years old, completes a week with the region changed.
In a new video published on social media, he reported that the spots are decreasing, however, they continue to be “itchy and burning”.
Medical care for black eyes
According to Gustavo, he has not yet been able to schedule a medical appointment, due to Carnival. He wants to consult with a professional dermatologist to understand what may have caused the lesions.
“Nothing worked out due to the holiday, I’ll have to wait. In the meantime, I am only using anti-allergy and applying sunscreen,” she explained.
“It’s already healing, the eye is a little sore now, but other than that it’s ok. The spots are decreasing”, he added.
Understand the case
Last week, Gustavo intrigued the internet by sharing a video showing swelling in his eye after waking up. In the images, Gustavo Henrique appears with the area around his eyes marked by a green color, which quickly turns into a shade of purple.
“Guys, I went to sleep like this and woke up like this. I don’t know what happened, I don’t know what could have happened. I just slept, woke up and found myself like this. Burning a lot, very bad, very swollen, tearing a lot”, began the young man. The next day, his eye was completely black.
To date, the video has more than 15 million views.
According to Gustavo, he has a history of strong allergies and is very sensitive to changes in weather, dusty environments, perfumes and even foods, but this type of reaction had never happened to him.
Internet users even commented that the injuries could have been caused by a cockroach bite. Although it is true that cockroaches bite and that the wound can cause damage, even leading to death, two doctors ruled out, in an interview with the G1 website, that this is the case with the tiktoker.
According to dermatologist Paula Azevedo, an insect bite would cause a different injury.
“It’s not possible that the cockroach bit him in such a symmetrical way,” he said. “It would not be possible to be bitten by a cockroach, because these injuries have different characteristics”, reinforced immunologist Millena Andrade.
According to experts, Gustavo’s case appears to be more similar to contact dermatitis, an inflammation caused by direct contact with a substance.
