In an act that reflects human generosity, Sapiranga Hospital stood out by carrying out the first collection of organs for donation this year, on the night of Sunday, January 28th. This noble action took place with the capture of vital organs – kidneys, liver and corneas – from a 64-year-old patient. This gesture of solidarity is essential to offer a new chance of life to patients in critical condition.
This significant process is the result of a collaboration between Hospital Sapiranga, the State Transplant Center, through OPO1 Santa Casa, and the institution’s Intra-Hospital Commission for Donation of Organs and Tissues for Transplantation (CIHDOTT). This initiative aims to transform the lives of many who are anxiously awaiting a transplant.
The hospital spokesperson highlighted the importance of this gesture, thanking the donor’s family for their altruistic decision in a time of great pain. “This is an invaluable act of love and generosity,” he said, and took the opportunity to thank the hospital team for their commitment and respect throughout the process.
Gabriela Saft, CIHDOTT coordinator at Sapiranga Hospital, reinforced the relevance of organ donation, emphasizing that a single donor can save up to eight lives. “Discussing organ donation with the family is crucial for these acts of generosity to be repeated,” she said.
The shortage of organs available for transplantation is a global problem. Making people aware of the importance of becoming donors is essential to changing the lives of many, bringing relief to the families of recipients and hope in difficult times.
