The National Traffic Council (Contran) published, in the Official Gazette of the Union this Friday (26), new deadlines for compliance with the determination.
Drivers who have a National Driving License (CNH) in categories C, D and E, who have not yet taken the toxicological test or have expired the test and missed the deadline of December 28, 2023, will have another chance to regularize the situation.
The established deadlines are March 31, 2024, for drivers whose driver’s license expires between January and June and April 30 for drivers whose document expires between July and December.
The toxicological examination is a determination provided for in the Brazilian Traffic Code to identify the use of psychoactive substances that could compromise driving ability and cause accidents.
Age
Drivers under 70 years of age in categories C, D and E, of buses and trucks, for example, must take the exam to issue and renew their driver’s license, in addition to updates every two years and six months.
Laboratories accredited by the National Traffic Secretariat (Senatran) carry out the analysis using samples of hair, fur or nails, and the results take around 15 days to be issued.
Currently, on the Senatran website, there are 17 networks of laboratories accredited to carry out the exam. The costs are borne by the companies hiring the drivers or by the drivers themselves, if they are self-employed.
To check whether you need to carry out a toxicological test, the Ministry of Transport advises that you consult the Digital Traffic Card (CDT) application, where it is necessary to register or log in, through your gov.br account.
