Year after year, lung cancer is the oncological disease that kills the most people in the world. The high mortality of this disease is mainly due to late diagnosis. Do you know which symptoms to watch out for?
Mike Hansen, a pulmonologist for almost 10 years, cited by the Daily Express, warns of a symptom of lung cancer “that most people are unaware of”: changes in the fingers and nails.
The doctor explains that this type of cancer can, in some cases, change the size of the fingertips, which become rounded. The nails, in turn, become wider, curved downwards and soft. “It’s definitely something that needs to be investigated and a potential sign of lung cancer,” he says.
Persistent or bloody cough, shortness of breath, chest pain, hoarseness, fatigue, recurring chest infections such as bronchitis or pneumonia, difficulty swallowing and reduced appetite are other symptoms to watch out for, adds Hansen.
