In search of artistic experimentation, Fael gathered the songs from his new EP, “Questão de Tempo”, released independently. Unlike his debut work, “Aqui e Agora” (2021), which had a more rock and MPB feel, the artist indulges in pop, with shorter songs, with electronic beats, layers and synths. Representing personal and musical maturation, the new album has six tracks, including the single “Setembro”, which also had a music video. The compact is scheduled for release on January 18, 2024 on the main streaming platforms.
“I believe this is a work of artistic maturity, while the first EP was very sincere and even exaggerated, this one is more rational, more refined. I learned that less is sometimes more, creating more intelligent arrangements, exploring new textures. I feel like I have a bit of a maximalist soul in the way I make music, wanting to fit a lot of ideas into one place. In this project I sought to treat each song in a more contained way, so that the production served the song and not the other way around. Somehow I feel that it is also a way to end this first cycle of my career so that, in the near future, I can invest in a complete album.”, evaluates Fael.
The EP “Questão de Tempo” is a collection of compositions that date back to 2010, and that today communicate with Fael’s moment, as if it were “a letter from my current self to my teenage self, who wrote these melodies” , describe. This is the case of “Pelas Ruas”, written in 2010 and “Cosmonauta” (2013), recovered to give cohesion to this reflective universe created by the artist.
“That’s why I think the big theme of the EP is maturity and the passage of time, the track ‘September’ in a way starts where ‘Aqui e Agora’, from the previous album, ended, which was acceptance of being yourself, and the The following songs are a look into the past and, in a way, an acceptance of history itself. ‘Through the Streets’ is about old romances; ‘Questão de Tempo’ talks about nostalgia; ‘São Tomé’ about accepting what has happened and moving on; ‘Cosmonaut’ about an astronaut pondering the fate of Earth after its destruction. Time is a great constant both in the themes of the lyrics and in my relationship with these songs written in such different eras, hence also the title.”, defines Fael.
While in his first work, in 2021, Fael was searching for his musical identity, in “Questão de Tempo”, the artist feels free to experiment, to play with musical notes and his influences. This time, he brings a mix of The Strokes and The Weeknd, as in the track “Pelas Ruas”; and also goes from 90s pop rock, in “Questão de Tempo”; to the contrast between minimalism and explosion in “Eu Não Nasci Pra Ser Hói”.
The EP “Questão de Tempo” features Fael as a singer, composer and the art on the cover is also his. Production is by Cezar Tortorelli, with mixing and mastering by Leonardo Braga. The song “Pelas Ruas” is a composition in partnership with Gabriel Farias. Musicians Cezar Tortorelli (guitars and acoustic guitars) and Giancarlo Gaudio (bass) participate.
