The family of Maria Daiane Souza da Silva, 25 years old, accuses a medical team at the maternity ward of the General Hospital of Feijó Doutor Babá, in the interior of Acre, of negligence after she died in the early hours of this Tuesday (9). Daiane, as she was known, underwent a cesarean section to remove her 3rd child on Monday night (8), she had hemorrhage and a cardiac arrest in the early hours of the morning and did not survive.
The child survived and remains hospitalized in the health unit receiving medical care. The Acre Health Department (Sesacre) issued a note after the death and stated that it had opened an administrative process to investigate the allegations. (See full note below).
To g1, Lidiane Souza da Silva, Daiane’s sister, said that her sister was recommended surgery to remove her son. During the morning of this Monday, Daiane felt unwell, went to the hospital in search of care and was advised to return home.
Daiane was already a mother of two girls, aged 3 and 4. “When it was evening, she started to lose blood. She had a due date because she didn’t feel any pain and her water didn’t break. The nurse had already scheduled her birth, everything was fine. She started to lose a lot of blood, they took her to the maternity ward and removed the baby. But, they were unable to stop the bleeding and she died,” she lamented.
According to her, her mother found Daiane bleeding and took her to the maternity ward around 9pm. For the family, if the baby had been removed in the morning, the woman would have survived. “If she had had the baby as directed, this tragedy would not have happened. Her other births were like this, she had to remove it quickly. Her first daughter was born in Tarauacá because, at the time, she didn’t have a cesarean section here,” she recalled.
The family was informed that Daiane suffered a displaced placenta, which caused the hemorrhage. During the early hours of the morning, the patient suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest and died. The relatives intend to denounce the doctor.
“We want justice. It cannot go unpunished. The baby is still in the hospital, they will do tests to see if everything is ok and he will be released. We don’t even know yet what it will look like, who will have it,” she concluded.
