São Paulo – The Campinas Regional Health Department, which belongs to the São Paulo government, had 79 boxes of cancer medicine stolen at the end of last year. According to the director of the unit, who made the complaint to the police, each box of 25MG/ML Pembrolizumab costs state management R$14,401.35. As a result, the loss to public coffers reaches R$1.37 million.
The disappearance of the medicines was reported to the police on Thursday (4/1). The occurrence was recorded at the 1st Police District of Campinas, which must investigate the case.
According to the unit director’s report, employees would have noticed the boxes missing last year, on the 27th, and there were no signs of a break-in at the location.
The State Department of Health opened a new bidding process for the purchase of missing medicines and said it will relocate items from other units to meet demand. The ministry did not explain why the case was not reported to the police when the theft was discovered.
