During the summer, Rio Grande do Sul has several fairs that highlight the genetics and production of sheep farming. Traditional moment for judging the most diverse breeds, the spaces will also serve to promote sheep farming and business opportunities.
According to the president of the Brazilian Association of Sheep Breeders (Arco), Edemundo Gressler, expectations are quite good in terms of the presence of animals and also the prospects for successful commercialization. “Fairs are very important, but it is also important to have liquidity in business, within a reality, especially wool. We producers know that we have to produce good lambs and good lambs are produced with good sires. We will have around 15 sheep breeds that will circulate at these exhibitions, providing business not only to the genetic producer but to the commercial producer, especially for sheep meat”, he notes.
The director recognizes the work carried out by rural entities and unions in promoting sheep farming events, some of which even have space for other species. “I have said about our recognition, not only as a leader, but also as a breeder and producer of genetics, for the rural unions and institutions that organize and promote the exhibitions. They do a wonderful job of providing opportunities for all breeders to take their animals to be judged and evaluated and also to sell them. We have to recognize each union and entity that allows us to show our animals”, he highlights.
Among the fairs that will be held during this period are the 44th summer exhibition in Dom Pedrito (RS), including the Corriedale National Race. The following week, from January 9th to 13th, the 16th Agrovino will take place in Bagé (RS), with also the National Poll Dorset and the State Poll of Ile de France and a significant presence of animals. Next, Sant’Ana do Livramento (RS) has the 46th Sheep Fair, from January 18th to 21st.

Then Herval holds its traditional fair from January 31st to February 4th, and reaches its 46th edition.
