The Kerb Festival of Estância Velha announced the king and queen of the event for 2024. The announcement of the couple who will represent the traditional event took place this Sunday, December 17th. Marcelo Weirich and Luana Winter Weirich received tracks from predecessors Henrique Bohnenberger and Muriel Dilly Bohnenberger. Now they will have the mission of promoting one of the biggest kerb parties in Rio Grande do Sul.
The couple are from Estância Velha and have always lived in the city. Furthermore, it represents the Chimarrão Society – they are the current kings of the entity’s Re-Kerb –, which is also a prerequisite for receiving the honor. Luana is a public servant, 30 years old, and Marcelo is a mechanical engineer, 40. “As children of Estância Velha, it honors us to carry forward the Germanic tradition and live this unique experience that we will have in 2024. We don’t hesitate in saying ‘yes’, we are ready to the biggest and most beautiful Curb the region has ever seen”, said Luana.

Curb History
In Estância Velha, the Curb Festival revives the strong and deep roots of German culture in the region. Initially, the celebration celebrated the foundation or consecration of a church or city, but over time, it added other characteristics, becoming part of the city’s cultural identity, passed down through generations as a way of honoring its heritage and celebrating unity. .
Since 2021, the Estância Velha Kerb Festival has delved into the essence of the historical and cultural recovery of Germanic celebrations. According to Mayor Diego Francisco, the event now, in addition to bringing a financial return to the participating entities, is also an official event on the Rio Grande do Sul calendar. “In addition, we transformed the kerb into a cultural heritage of our city”, he states .
According to the Director of Tourism at the Secretariat for Economic Development, Innovation and Tourism (SEDEIT), Maicon Dutra, the Estância Velha Kerb Festival is a self-sustainable product. “Profit from the event returns to the communities,” he explains.
