Students of the Digital Photography discipline of the UCS Senior program at Campus das Hortênsias, in Canela, are promoting, until January 31st, the exhibition Pétalas em Foco: a photographic look at flowers. Visitation is free and open to the community daily, from 10am to 6pm, at Campos de Canella Station – Rua Coberta.
The works delve into the universe of vibrant colors, intricate textures and unique compositions of flowers, which the public will be able to witness through the student photographers’ commitment to improving their skills. The project, developed during the second half of this year, explores techniques such as detailed macro photography, which highlights the delicacy of a single petal, to creative compositions that play with light and shadow, giving a unique dimension to the flowers.
Digital Photography teacher, João Mendes Neto, points out that each image goes beyond floral representation, as different approaches and photographers who worked on the theme were presented throughout the classes, from the most traditional to the most contemporary way. “The interesting thing is that when I asked them to do the rehearsals, each one chose different ways of creating, with reinterpretations of the aesthetics that pleased them most. My expectation as a teacher in the UCS Senior program is to see an increase in students’ self-esteem when they exhibit their productions and are recognized. This goes a long way for the group,” he explains.

Created 32 years ago, the UCS Senior Program presents a universe of possibilities for elderly people, in different areas of knowledge. Classes take place in face-to-face and synchronous online formats. The program also offers as a benefit for students aged 55 and over, enrolled in one of the face-to-face undergraduate courses (except for the Medicine course) or in Stricto Sensu postgraduate courses (doctorates and masters), a discount of 25 % in the value of the contracted subjects. Currently, the project has 733 students on the campuses of Caxias do Sul, Bento Gonçalves, Canela and São Sebastião do Caí.
