The Symphony Choir of the Porto Alegre Symphony Orchestra will perform a special concert as part of the Christmas Erechim 2023 program – Live this magic. The performance will be on Saturday, December 9th, at 9pm, at Catedral São José. In an end-of-year atmosphere, the ensemble performs a repertoire suitable for voice that includes sacred and popular works, with the accompaniment of guest musicians. Entry is free and on a first-come, first-served basis.
The concert is held by OSPA in partnership with Instituto Unimed/RS and Unimed Erechim, with support from the city of Erechim, CDL Erechim, AEL, AMA and Mitra Diocesana de Erechim.
For this performance, maestro Manfredo Schmiedt, who leads the OSPA Symphonic Choir, selected emotional songs that reflect the spirit of the end of the year, such as “Hallelujah”, by Leonard Cohen, “Gloria”, by John Rutter, and “Psalm 150”, by Ernani Aguiar. The public will also be able to witness the individual talents of some singers in the choir, who will perform solos in great hits, such as the medley from the musical “Les Misérables” and the theme from the film “The Lion King”.
The OSPA Symphonic Choir is made up of volunteer singers who meet weekly to recreate great works with OSPA. In Erechim, around 60 voices from the group will be accompanied by the choir’s pianist, Eduardo Knob, and some guest instrumentalists. A string quartet participates in the songs “You Raise me Up”, which has already been covered by more than a hundred artists, and “Luminous Night of the Soul”, by Ola Gjeilo, in which the choir will be challenged to sing in eight parts different.
