This Thursday (30), the board of directors of Grupo Hospitalar Conceição, in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul (RS), determined the dismissal of the ten doctors investigated by the Federal Police (PF) for fraud during the work day.
On Tuesday (28), the PF launched Operation Hippocrates, which investigates possible crimes of embezzlement, misrepresentation and fraud against the Hospital Nossa Senhora da Conceição (HNSC). The operation mobilized 42 federal police officers to carry out 11 search and seizure warrants in hospitals, clinics and offices in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul.
The investigation began with an anonymous complaint that reported the conduct of doctors, with salaries ranging between R$14 and R$31 thousand reais. According to the complaint, the employees registered the beginning of the working day and would leave the hospital for other activities, mainly care in private clinics and other hospitals, and returned at the end of the day to close the point, implying that there had remained throughout the period.
The management of the hospitals installed an Internal Investigative Inquiry which, this Friday (1st), begins work and will have a regulatory period of 60 days to carry out the administrative investigation, hearing witnesses and those accused of fraud. The investigation is internal and remains independent of the PF investigation.
In a statement, the Medical Union of Rio Grande do Sul (Simers) stated that it supports the rigorous investigation of the facts related to Operation Hippocrates and reinforces that all professionals have the right to full defense and due legal process. The union also emphasizes that the occurrence of possible isolated situations should not lead to generalizations for the entire medical category. “The facts must be investigated by the authorities in all instances, so that public execration and prior judgment of professionals do not occur”, he adds.
