The Porto Alegre Symphony Orchestra (OSPA), a foundation linked to the State Secretariat for Culture (Sedac-RS), prepared a special performance for December 2nd, at 5pm. With the participation of two great opera singers, Carmen Monarcha and Giovanni Marquezeli, the Orchestra and its Symphonic Choir cover a varied repertoire of popular and operatic classics, under the direction of maestro Evandro Matté.
The ticket is just 2kg of food, which will be donated to families affected by the latest floods in Porto Alegre. The exchange of food for tickets must be carried out exclusively at Casa da OSPA, Thursday (30/11), Friday (01/12) and Saturday (2/12), from 12pm to 5pm.
An internationally renowned soprano, Carmen Monarcha brings the experience of 18 years traveling the world with maestro André Rieu and his Johann Strauss Orchestra. For the first time alongside OSPA, the singer will perform works from the lyrical and popular repertoire, as well as a song related to her homeland, Belém do Pará. “As a representative of Amazonian culture, I am very happy to perform ‘Melodia Sentimental’, which is one of the songs from ‘Floresta do Amazonas’, by Villa-Lobos, that I love to sing”, comments the soprano. Along with the OSPA Orchestra and Symphonic Choir, Carmen will also be a soloist in the classics “Oh! Holy Night”, “Oh Happy Day” and “You Raise me Up”.
A recent revelation on the local opera scene, singer Giovanni Marquezeli will also be with OSPA on Saturday. He, who was recently awarded at the 1st Decápolis de Andrade Singing Competition, performs “E Lucevan le Stelle”, from the opera “Tosca” (Puccini), and “La Donna è Mòbile”, one of the best-known arias in the world, from the opera “Rigoletto” (Verdi). Giovanni will also duet with Carmen on “You Raise me Up”.
In addition to accompanying the soloists in these classics, the OSPA Symphonic Choir participates with two pieces from the operatic repertoire: “Va Pensiero”, from the opera “Nabucco” (Verdi) and the “Polovetsian Dances”, from the opera “Prince Igor” (Borodin) . The end of the concert brings together the Choir and Orchestra for a performance of “Hallelujah”, the best-known part of the oratorio “The Messiah” (Händel).
