Nova Petrópolis now has a Municipal Pharmacy, located at Rua Sete de Setembro, 350, next to City Hall. The new service is accredited to the State government’s Cuidar + program and will operate from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm, from Monday to Friday, without closing at midday.
With the centralization in the Municipal Pharmacy, medication dispensing will gradually no longer occur in basic health units (UBSs). The change occurs due to the absence of pharmaceutical professionals in health posts.
The installation of a Municipal Pharmacy in Nova Petrópolis has been under construction for some time, mainly due to the notices issued by the regional Pharmacy and Nursing councils. The entities alert the Public Authorities about the need for medicines to be made available under the supervision of pharmacists, as these are professionals with technical knowledge and able to provide information to patients.
For the installation, the City Hall joined the Rio Grande do Sul government’s Cuidar + program, which aims to transfer financial resources to promote pharmaceutical care. Through the initiative, R$100,000 were transferred to Nova Petrópolis, an amount that is being used to implement the unit. The Municipality has already invested approximately R$79,400 to carry out renovation work on the building, purchasing furniture and installing handrails for accessibility.
The Municipal Pharmacy will have a team made up of two pharmacists and a pharmacy assistant – also trained as a nursing technician. The Department of Health is hiring another professional to reinforce the service’s staff.
What changes with the Municipal Pharmacy
Immediately, UBS Centro/Alpina and the Psychosocial Care Center (Caps) will stop providing medicines from this Thursday, the 16th, advising their users to go to the Pharmacy, located at Rua Sete de Setembro, 350, next to City Hall.
In health centers in the interior and neighborhoods, the change in dispensing will be gradual, starting with medicines that require a controlled medical prescription and antibiotics. By December 1st, the Department of Health intends to end the delivery of these materials to the stations and centralize them only at the Pharmacy.
In addition to dispensing through prescriptions issued in the public health network, the Municipal Pharmacy building will also contain deliveries of medicines that are the result of legal proceedings and other administrative processes of special and specialized medicines that are sent to the State Department of Health. Medicines distributed through Farmácia Solidária will also be made available to users only at that location.
