The mother of the 11-year-old boy who ate geckos offered by his stepmother said that the boy urinated and vomited “black liquid” after eating the animal. To g1, Raquel de Souza said that five geckos of different species were prepared for the boy to eat.
“I was stunned, with no reaction. I couldn’t believe the courage to convince a child to eat this. He said he told them he was disgusted, but they insisted and he ate it,” said the child’s mother.
The situation happened on November 6th. According to the boy’s mother, he had a headache, felt weak, had a swollen tongue, had diarrhea, in addition to vomiting and urinating a dark liquid. The child was hospitalized for three days.
“He was hospitalized in a serious condition, I took him there when he was unconscious. He started vomiting black and the urine was also coming out black, similar in color to Coca-Cola”, recalled the boy’s mother.
Understand the case
The boy’s mother said that the child went to spend the weekend at his father’s house and, when the man went to work, his stepmother and mother told stories about having already eaten geckos. Then, they convinced the boy to hunt the animals and prepared them for him to eat.
The case was registered with the police last Friday (11). According to delegate Paulo Henrique Santos, after consuming the animal the child became ill and was diagnosed with an intestinal infection. “The father’s current mother-in-law was a very simple person, it seems that she had been hungry in the past and commented to the child that people used to eat that stuff”, explained the delegate.
The police are expected to hear from her stepmother and mother this week to continue the investigation. The child is being treated and is recovering at home.
