The “Mens na Cozinha 2023” charity dinner, which took place on October 27 at Espaço Emma Trein Eventos, exceeded the organizers’ expectations. With the support of the community and the promotion of the Canela Lions Club, the event managed to raise R$68,000, which will be donated to the Canela Civil Police Station.
Egídio Boelter, president of Lions, handed over the donation to delegate Vladimir Medeiros and the president of Mocovi Canela, Antonio Saldanha Nunes, who will be responsible for the legal transfer of funds to the Civil Police. The symbolic delivery took place on November 7th, at the Grande Hotel Canela, and was attended by Lions members, volunteers and the press.
The initial goal of the event was to raise R$60,000 by selling 400 tickets at R$150 each. However, thanks to contributions from supporters and the sale of drinks, it was possible to increase revenue. “The success is the result of massive community support. In 2024, we will hold the event again with fundraising for public safety. A good destination needs to be safe”, highlights Boelter.
The funds raised will be used to purchase research equipment, maintenance and other emergency expenses. “The resource gives us peace of mind to work. However, the most important thing is not the value. The involvement that I was able to witness in the event gives us strength to continue our work”, says delegate Medeiros.
In the first edition of “Mens na Cozinha”, several volunteers acted as cooks. The event was a Lions Clube de Canela and had a volunteer committee in the organization, in addition to sponsorship from several local companies.
