In an exciting weekend in Brasília, young athlete Taylor Macedo, just 12 years old, made history at the Brazilian School Games (JEBs). Representing the city of Pelotas and the Quem Luta Não Briga (QLNB) project, Taylor won the bronze medal in the Taekwondo Silver Series category, bringing pride to his hometown.
Taylor, who is a student at Emef Jornalista Deogar Soares, participated in the competition as part of the Gaúcha School Taekwondo Team, made up of eight other students. On Saturday afternoon, he faced and beat an opponent from Roraima, thus guaranteeing a place on the podium.
QLNB team coach Rossano Diniz expressed his pride and satisfaction with Taylor’s performance. According to him, the competition is the culmination of a project that began in January and has provided great experiences for young athletes. “It was the first time they were on a plane, the first time in Brasília, an important city in the country and this is the role of the project, to build values that will have a major impact on their lives”, said Diniz.
The QLNB project, developed by the Sports department of the Municipal Education Department, aims to promote the practice of Taekwondo among young people in Pelotas. Since its creation in 2011, the project has served thousands of young people, offering free training in five centers strategically located in the city.
The 2023 Brazilian School Games, organized by the Brazilian Confederation of School Sports and the Ministry of Sports, are one of the main student competitions in the country. The competition, which began on October 28th, runs until next Wednesday (8th), involving 6,714 people, including athletes and technical committees from 18 sports.
Taylor Macedo’s achievement is a testament to the success of the QLNB project and an inspiring example for other young athletes. With two more competitions scheduled for the end of the year, the Copa Sapucaia do Sul and the Copa do Brasil de Taekwondo, QLNB’s young athletes have a lot to look forward to.
