Santa Maria City Hall began discussions with Azul Linhas Aéreas this Monday (30) to resume direct flights to Florianópolis during the summer. The online meeting was attended by vice-mayor Rodrigo Decimo, municipal secretary Ticiana Fontana, the operational manager of Santa Maria Airport, Aleques Martins, and the Infrastructure manager of Azul Linhas Aéreas, Luciano Di Mattia.
During the meeting, plans for summer flights between Santa Maria and Florianópolis were discussed. Secretary Ticiana highlighted that these seasonal flights are highly anticipated by users of Santa Maria and Florianópolis airports.
Municipal representatives also requested the expansion of flights to Curitiba and São Paulo, citing an average occupancy rate of 85% on seasonal flights. They also highlighted the improvements made at Santa Maria Airport, thanks to an investment of R$1.2 million.
Luciano Di Mattia, from Azul Linhas Aéreas, recognized the excellent infrastructure of the Santa Maria air terminal. He mentioned that the company is always looking to expand and evaluate new routes. However, he also noted that a lack of equipment and crew often impedes route expansion. Despite this, he committed to taking the proposal to expand the operation to the responsible sector at Azul.
HISTORIC
Two years ago, the company Azul Linhas Aéreas, which already offers flights between Santa Maria and Porto Alegre, offers seasonal flights during the summer to Florianópolis. It is expected that, next season, work will continue and the economic development of the Municipality will continue with positive data.
