The documentary series Trans Twins: A New Life, originally produced by Warner Bros. Discovery that follows the lives of 21-year-old Brazilian sisters, Mayla and Sofia, the first twins to undergo sexual reassignment surgery together globally and the youngest people in Brazil to undergo the procedure, premieres Saturday, November 10th, at 10:20 pm on TLC. Since last June, the series has been available on HBO Max and discovery+.
During the six episodes, which will be shown weekly on TLC, the audience follows Mayla and Sofia as they reunite to enjoy vacations, see old friends and face new challenges. In 2021, at the age of 19, the sisters underwent sexual reassignment surgery together at a clinic in Blumenau and are now faced with the challenges of their new life. Mayla lives in Buenos Aires, where she studies medicine, and Sofia lives in Franca, in the interior of São Paulo, where she studies engineering. Conflicts, choices, love, realizing dreams and the day-to-day struggle for recognition and against prejudice are some of the themes covered in reality.
Raised in Tapira, a city in the interior of Minas Gerais with just four thousand inhabitants, the young women came from simple origins, a humble family that, despite financial and social limitations, always did everything to support and contribute to Mayla and Sofia’s dreams. .
In the first episode, the twins begin their vacation by reuniting for a very special reason: participating in a beauty contest held in the city where they grew up. A dream since childhood for both of them, being in this contest became even more special since the stylist who will design the costumes is none other than Michelly X, renowned stylist and trans woman who designs looks for personalities such as Ivete Sangalo, Xuxa, Anitta and many others.
