On Lunchbox Day, celebrated on October 30th, the Caxias do Sul Development Company (Codeca) pays tribute to the 186 lunch professionals who serve more than 34 thousand students and around 3.5 thousand employees in 83 municipal schools and four administrative points of the Municipal Department of Education (SMED).
Since July 2022, when Codeca took over food and hygiene services in the municipal education network, the company has hired 432 professionals through an emergency selection process. In 2023, Codeca held a public competition to fill these vacancies.
The professionals now celebrate their stability as gazetted employees at Codeca. Rochele Casagrande, lunch lady at EMEF Rosário de São Francisco, expresses her relief: “Now everything is paid for correctly!” This security is also felt by deputy director Eliane Soares Frigeri, who highlights the importance of these professionals in schools.
At EMEF Senador Teotônio Vilela, director Paula Anselmi praises the relationship with Codeca and highlights lunch worker Fabiano da Costa Aguiar as an example of the company’s commitment to its employees. Fabiano, who loves cooking and is happy in his job, is one of four lunch boys in the predominantly female school system.

Mayor Adiló Didomenico, a supporter of Codeca’s new field of activity, recalls that the decision to transfer the lunch and janitorial services of municipal schools to the Company had the objective of putting an end to the suffering of workers and guaranteeing good service to schools in the city. network. “This anguish had been dragging on, not knowing if they would be paid, if they would receive everything or just a part, if they would be able to pay the monthly bills. And with Codeca, we also resolved a situation that ended up harming students, teachers and employees of the municipal network. We know that for many of them, the meal offered by the municipality is the most important, if not the only one of the day. So, it is a service that cannot fail. And we soon realized that the best alternative to end the problem once and for all was to transfer the service to Codeca, which is our company and has never failed us. The entire population of Caxias do Sul knows that they can count on Codeca when they are hired for a service. And once again, to the happiness of all our teachers, students and their families, that is what happened,” he says.
On the Company’s side, CEO Maria de Lourdes Fagherazzi evaluates the new service. “It’s very important! This way, the professional can focus on what really matters: providing a healthy and delicious diet for the students,” she highlights.
