HBO Max made available its Max Original production GARAVITO: THE SERIAL MONSTER, a documentary series about the capture of Luis Alfredo Garavito, a Colombian serial killer who died on October 12, 2023. The real story shows the actions of the group of investigators who captured the killer most feared in Colombia and Latin America in the 1990s,
Through interviews with investigators, journalists and relatives of the victims, the documentary chronicles the facts that allowed Colombian authorities to identify murder cases with a similar modus operandi and that led to the determination that Garavito was a serial killer.
Over four episodes, GARAVITO: THE SERIAL MONSTER reveals – based on irrefutable evidence and the voice of the investigation team – how the Garavito case became a turning point that redefined the way police investigations were conducted in the country.

After his capture for heinous crimes that left more than 200 children as victims, Garavito was sentenced to 1,853 years and nine days in prison, the longest sentence in Colombia’s judicial history, which was commuted to 40 years due to the country’s legislation.
Investigation
The documentary series is the product of an extensive investigation that began in 2021, which recovers testimonies, images and police studies, resulting in the capture of the pedophile and murderer, and which seeks to remember the victims and challenge the viewer to prevent history from repeating itself.
