A Brazilian woman died days after undergoing bariatric surgery in Massachusetts, in the United States. Anni Caroline Ribeiro had a leak in her stomach, which caused an infection. Family created a ‘crowdfunding’ (crowdfunding) to pay for the funeral.
According to Anni’s sister, Isadora Cunha, the procedure was carried out on October 3, and everything “went well”. The young woman was “very excited” to be able to perform the surgery. Four days later, at around 7pm, family members noticed that her lips and nails were blue due to her low oxygen level.
She was taken to Marlborough Hospital in Massachusetts, from where she was transferred to Boston Children’s Hospital. In the unit, they discovered the stomach leak. The Brazilian woman had a septic condition, and as a result, multiple organ failure. She died on October 13th.
The family created a virtual campaign to hold Anni’s funeral. They need to raise US$20,000, around R$101,000, according to the current price. In the publication, Isadora thanks the support she received from the people who sought out her family members.
“Anything you are willing to give is greatly appreciated,” the sister wrote. On Wednesday, the 18th, the goal was reached, and with 338 donations, they managed to raise the amount of US$ 21,195, approximately R$ 107 thousand.
