The government of the state of São Paulo will carry out a new assessment on the mandatory use of masks in open environments, after the diagnosis of a couple from Africa with the Ômicron variant of the coronavirus. The forecast is that the Scientific Committee will issue an opinion next week.
The flexibility had been announced on the 24th, based on data on the advance of vaccination and the epidemiological scenario, and would take effect from December 11th. The government reinforces that, regardless of the committee’s decision, the use of masks will remain mandatory indoors and on public transport.
The state of São Paulo currently has 75.8% of the population with a complete vaccination schedule. When considering only the adult population, the percentage is 93.7%.
