Environmental Education at MiniZoo – Last Saturday (14), the Canoas Municipal Zoo (MiniZoo) surprised its visitors with a special educational activity. In collaboration with local recycling cooperatives, MiniZoo organized a storytelling event, highlighting the importance of proper waste separation and its impact on animals’ lives.
The Importance of Awareness
Renata Gautier, MiniZoo biologist, emphasized the importance of this awareness work. She explained that many animals arrive at the zoo with problems caused by incorrectly disposed of waste, either by ingesting these materials or by getting them stuck in their wings, beaks or paws.
MiniZoo’s Commitment to Wildlife
Linked to the Municipal Environment Secretariat, the Canoas Municipal Zoo prioritizes the rehabilitation and reintroduction of wild animals into nature. However, many of these animals cannot return to their natural habitat and must remain at the zoo. In 2023, MiniZoo celebrated its 18th anniversary, having served more than 10,000 animals during that time.
