The traditional Expoaer 2023 aeronautical event takes place this Saturday (14), in Santa Maria. Promoted by the Santa Maria Air Base (BASM), with the support of the City Hall, this year’s event will bring the Air Demonstration Squadron (EDA) to the city ), popularly known as Esquadrilha da Fumaça.
Opening
Basm’s gates will be open from 10am to 6pm, so that the local community and visitors from across the region can learn more about the Brazilian Air Force (FAB), and enjoy the acrobatics, maneuvers and doodling in the sky. Entry is free, but the event is charitable. The suggested contribution is 1kg of non-perishable food. All food collected will go to SESC’s Mesa Brasil project.
The program includes several attractions, presentations and demonstrations throughout the day. During the event, visitors will have the opportunity to see aircraft up close – in particular the KC-390, a nationally manufactured multi-mission freighter introduced to the FAB at the end of 2019 – and combat vehicles, enjoy the presentations of trained dogs and demonstrations aerial. It will also be possible to check the ways to enter a military career and learn more about Military Organizations. There will also be a food court with several gastronomic options.
Vaccination
A Health Department stand will be available to reinforce public immunization with doses of the flu vaccine (general population), bivalent vaccine against Covid-19 (first, second and third doses delayed, for children and adults), and routine vaccines, according to ages and indications in the national vaccination calendar (from 2 months of age).
The event also takes place in reference to the 150th anniversary of Alberto Santos Dumont, considered the “Father of Aviation”. The last edition of Expoaer took place in 2019. The Esquadrilha da Fumaça performed for the last time in the skies of Santa Maria in 2017.
Expoaer is carried out by the Brazilian Air Force, through the Santa Maria Air Base, and has the institutional support of the Santa Maria City Hall, Federal University of Santa Maria, 3rd Army Division, Federal Highway Police, Military Brigade, Corps of Military Firefighters, and Social Service of Commerce.
