A family is going through double grief in Viana, in the Metropolitan Region of Espírito Santo. Daniel Lana Christ, 44 years old, is a painter and was working on Saturday (7) when he started feeling ill and was taken to the medical center in serious condition, had a heart attack and died. His father, Guido Christ, aged 80, upon hearing the news also had a heart attack and died about 4 hours later.
In conversation, the family’s nephew, Vinícius Lana Pedroni, who witnessed the rush to the doctor, recounted the Saturday of terror that the family experienced.
“On Saturday, around 5:30 pm, Daniel fell ill. He is a painter and works with custom furniture and went to pick up a piece to put in the car and take to a client and felt bad. The father himself took his son to the emergency room and soon after they gave him the news that his son had died”, said Vinícius.
Vinícius said he went to the emergency room to take Daniel’s wife, and found Guido sitting in a state of shock.
“He was very upset about his son’s death. When I arrived I asked what happened and he said that Daniel died, in a surreal tranquility. I didn’t understand anything. And then there was a rush, everyone was scared”, reported the nephew.
After hearing the news of his son’s death, the retiree returned home to try to tell his wife. In the meantime, more relatives began to arrive and 2 hours later, Guido began to feel ill.
The retiree’s daughter took the elderly man, who was already very ill, to Hospital São Francisco, in Campo Grande, Cariacica. The man was treated and sedated by doctors. Shortly afterwards, Guido’s condition worsened, and around 9:30 pm he also passed away.
Very big loss for the family
According to family members, father and son did not have heart problems. The two were laid to rest on Sunday (10), in the parish where Guido was active for almost 40 years.
“He always participated in celebrations, performed baptisms. On Sunday he would participate in mass in the morning, he had even joked with neighbors saying that it would be the last celebration he would have”, said Vinícius.

Father and son lived on the same land, but in different houses. Daniel left behind a 2-month-old daughter, Antonella. The two were born and raised in the neighborhood, and according to relatives, they were very loved by the community.
“Daniel was a guy who really liked fishing, he was extroverted and playful. A cousin who has a heart the size of the world. He liked to post photos of the fish he caught. Uncle Guido, on the other hand, is always a welcoming person, with a kind word. He has a great legacy in the church and always helped the community,” reported his nephew.
In an attempt to spare Daniel’s mother, Guido’s wife, the suffering, the family took her to a house in the interior of the state, in Anchieta.
“We are still processing all the information. Now it’s time to continue the desires they had. It’s double grief, double pain. What comforted us was seeing the church full during the wake, seeing the number of people who wanted to help. This comforts us”, said the nephew.
Cardiologist explains
Cardiologist Henrique Bonaldi said that coronary disease is acquired over the years and physical and emotional stress can trigger a heart attack.
However, there is no evidence in the literature that emotional stress can be the main cause of the problem.
“Not everyone who has emotional stress will go through this [ter problema cardíaco]. Just as we are concerned about those who are going to practice sports, physical activity, the same happens with people who go through emotional stress. That [faixa etária do pai e do filho] it’s worrying. All individuals over 40 years of age should undergo examinations as soon as possible to assess their vascular health”, advised the doctor.
