The group Miseri Coloni premieres the show Miseri Coloni gives Voice to Silence, on October 11th, at 8pm, at UCS Teatro, in Caxias do Sul, with free entry. The 11th piece pays homage to the 150th anniversary of Italian immigration, which will take place in 2025. Among the silences imposed during this period, the piece remembers the 100th anniversary of the appearance of Nanetto Pipetta in the newspaper “Staffetta Riograndense”, and the representativeness of this character for the foundation of Talian literature.
The audience at the show will receive a republished edition of the newspaper from January 23, 1924, which contains the first text Vita e Storia by Nanetto Pipetta with the inclusion of historical facts and songs presented in the play. The project is financed by ProCultura from SEDAC – State Secretariat for Culture – RS, with funds obtained via Notice nº 16/2021 to Arte do Espetáculo, from FAC – Fund for Support to Culture.
History
Playwright Jorge Rein wrote the text of the work, focused on the context of the 1920s and 1930s, where the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of Italian Immigration took place, amid situations of conflict and political disputes between Ximangos and Maragatos in Rio Grande do Sul and the arrival to the power of fascism in Italy, resulting in the Second World War. And within this, Italian immigrants making their history, with important brands that remain alive to this day.
The show’s director, Fábio Cuelli, explains that the theatrical production brings together personal stories from the members of Miseri Coloni and from them historical facts were reconstructed.
