Porto Alegre City Hall decided to extend Operation Winter until December 31st. The decision took into account the constant climate change and the meteorological forecast of an El Niño phenomenon until November, which could affect hundreds of families in the Capital.
Hostels and shelters
Of the 227 vacancies expanded in June, 100 vacancies remain active in hostels, shelters and inns until the end of the year. Furthermore, the Foundation for Social Assistance and Citizenship (Fasc) is implementing, in the coming days, a new type of reception for adult men living on the streets, a halfway house with capacity to serve up to 50 people.
In addition to the 820 already existing vacancies, there are 970 vacancies available in the protection network for the homeless population. “Maintaining expanded vacancies in the municipal network guarantees greater support for those who use street space as housing”, says the president of Fasc, Cristiano Roratto.
Approach Center
The Approach Center, located in the Porto Alegre Integrated Service Coordination Center (Ceic-POA), has teams working 24 hours a day, every day of the week. Requests are made via telephone 156, option 7, or app 156+POA. On holidays and weekends, the social approach team works from 9am to 7pm.
