The “Honey House” Project
On October 3rd, Estância Velha celebrated National Bee Day, highlighting the “Casinha de Mel” project. This project, which began in June this year, is an initiative of the Secretariats of Environment, Livestock and Agriculture (SEMAPA) and Education and Culture (SEMEC). The objective is to raise awareness and sensitize the population about the importance of stingless bees for the balance of ecosystems.
Education and Awareness
During the first phase of the project, the secretariats visited more than 10 municipal schools, from pre-school to high school. On National Bee Day, EMEF Nicolau Alselmo Wecker and EMEI Recanto da Floresta participated in another edition of the project. Through a dynamic and playful approach, students learned about the importance of stingless bees.
Stingless Bees: Small Bugs, Big Impact
Stingless bees play a crucial role in plant pollination, contributing to the maintenance of biodiversity and food production, explains the Secretary of the Environment, Viviane Diogo. “By learning about the importance of these small insects, children expand their understanding of nature and the importance of preserving it”, adds Hoeslen Mauzer, Environmental Projects Coordinator.
Partnerships and Collaborations
SEMAPA and SEMEC in Estância Velha have already involved several schools, sharing essential information about bees, known as the “Kiss of Life”. The “Casinha de Mel” project has the support of melipolicultor Pedro Maya and other collaborators.
