A recent survey by Serasa, carried out in partnership with Opinion Box, reveals that only 56% of Brazilians say they organize their finances monthly. The study, entitled “Regional Finance: differences in the relationship with money between the States of Brazil”, offers a detailed view of financial habits across the country.
How do Brazilians manage their finances?
The survey found that 11% of respondents track their finances regularly, but sometimes forget or skip a few months. Another 18% say they only organize their finances from time to time or when they feel the need. Unfortunately, 15% of respondents say they are not in the habit of worrying about their finances.
When it comes to financial management methods, 42% of respondents prefer to make notes on paper, while 33% check their card statements and 29% follow their bank statements online. Spreadsheets (20%) and financial control applications (12%) are also used, and 10% say they organize their expenses using only memory.
Which states lead in financial management?
Consumers in Piauí lead the country in monthly control of their finances, with an average of 89%. São Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul and Goiás come next, with 88%, followed by Santa Catarina and Paraná, both with 87%.
On the other hand, Rondônia (72%), Alagoas (78.5%) and Bahia (79%) are the states where consumers are least concerned about financial management. Espírito Santo (80%) and Acre (80%) also appear on this list.
