Goiânia – The Civil Police of Goiás is investigating two doctors from a private hospital in the capital of Goiás for manslaughter and negligence, following the death of a patient in a health unit. According to the investigation of the case, the professionals failed to report the fall of an 88-year-old man, who was hospitalized and lucid, but, after the fall, became confused and died.
The situation happened in May last year, in a hospital located in the West Sector and whose name was not disclosed. According to Edmundo Elizário Galvão’s family, the elderly man was hospitalized for simple health treatment. However, even though he was conscious, he was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit, on the doctor’s recommendation.
When visiting her father, one of the patient’s daughters noticed a bruise on his head and, when questioning the health unit staff and the doctor, she was informed that everything was fine and nothing had happened.
According to the case’s investigator, Alexandre Bruno Barros, head of the State Office for Elderly Care (Deai), the doctors who attended to the elderly man were aware of the fall and, in addition to not informing his family, they did not put any observation in the patient’s file. patient.
“When he underwent a tomography, three days later, thanks to the concern of another doctor, the elderly man already had a clot in his brain and due to this delay in identifying the lesion, he ended up dying that same day,” said the delegate.
According to Alexandre Barros, it was also found that some medications that had not been prescribed by any doctor were given to the patient during hospitalization. The names of the professionals were not disclosed.
