The State Department of Health (SES-PE) confirmed yet another death of a patient colonized by the superfungus Candida auris in Pernambuco.
The notification was made last Tuesday (19), of a female patient, aged 49, who was admitted to the Hospital das Clínicas (HC) of the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE) and who died on September 2, due to complications related to underlying diseases (neurological).
According to SES, this is the 13th confirmed case of colonization for the disease in Pernambuco. Also according to the folder, the unit, with technical support from the Pernambuco Health Surveillance Agency (Apevisa), is monitoring four patients who had contact with the confirmed case at the HC. No care had to be interrupted in the unit and patients who had contact with the confirmed case are in isolation.
The State Health Department reports that of the total number of confirmations, seven patients were discharged from hospital, two remain hospitalized at Hospital do Tricentenário, in Olinda. Four patients died.
Regarding deaths, SES highlights that the State has not recorded deaths, to date, caused by Candida auris. And while it continues to strengthen prevention measures in hospitals, through Apevisa. Remembering that last May, a technical committee was created, made up of experts, whose activities are to identify, prevent and control Candida auris infections in health services in Pernambuco.
