Turmeric, turmeric, yellow ginger or turmeric is a type of root from India that is widely used to season dishes such as curry. It contains a naturally active compound called curcumin which, in addition to giving food its yellow hue, is a quick and natural solution to indigestion, according to new research published in the scientific journal BMJ.
Known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, turmeric is used as a medicine by the population of Southeast Asia. Therefore, researchers from Chulalongkorn University, in Thailand, tested the medicinal abilities of the compound present in it on 206 patients, aged between 18 and 70 years, all suffering from recurrent dyspepsia (stomach pain).
A third of participants received two large saffron capsules four times a day, a third received Omeprazole, an indigestion medication, while the final third received both. Then, after 56 days, the team of researchers discovered that the reductions in symptom severity and pain in all groups were similar.
“Dyspepsia is a common disorder, and patients often try behavioral and dietary modifications, as well as over-the-counter medications, before seeing a doctor. In this trial, oral curcumin was found to be safe and well tolerated,” the team wrote.

Furthermore, it can also be mixed with juices. Its fame comes mainly from its use as one of the main ingredients in curry, a typical Indian dish.
The only contraindication is for pregnant women, breastfeeding women and children under four years of age.
