Opening of the Celebrations
On Saturday night (16/09), the Rodeo Court of the Pavilions of the Festa da Uva was the stage for the opening of the Festejos Farroupilhas 2023, which will continue until September 20th, when the themed parade and cavalry parade takes place at Sinimbu. This year’s theme is the Centenary of the 1923 Revolution, a war that gave rise to the symbolism of the scarves that are part of the gaucho’s clothing, opposing maragatos and chimangos.
The event began with the arrival of the Crioula Flame, led by cavalrymen from several Gaucho Traditions Centers (CTGs) in Caxias do Sul. The flame represents the fighting spirit and freedom of the Gauchos and is lit every year in a historic city in Rio. Grande do Sul.
The coordinator of the 25th Traditionalist Region, Rodrigo Ramos, opened the evening’s speeches by paying tribute to two traditionalism enthusiasts who passed away this year, the former deputy coordinator of the 25th Traditionalist Region, Ernesto Lisboa and the former president of MTG, Manoelito Savaris. On that occasion, Ramos handed Mayor Adiló Didomenico the nomination of the 25th Traditionalist Region for the naming of the future Rural Park of Caxias do Sul named after Manoelito Carlos Savaris, for the fight for a rodeo park to promote Gaucho traditionalism in Caxias do Sul. “We are sure that Savaris will be very well honored with this designation. Here I would like to reinforce my gratitude to the City of Caxias do Sul, which supports our culture, our roots and which believes in the importance of a space for Gaucho celebrations”, he commented.
Farroupilha Parade
Mayor Adiló Didomenico welcomed the movement’s recommendation to name the Rural Park and said that it will take the name of Manoelito Savarias as a tribute for the evaluation of the leaders involved. “It’s an excellent recommendation. Savaris represents and represented the traditionalist gaucho movement and we have great admiration for what he did. We are not better than anyone else, but the blood that runs through the gaucho’s veins is different. I hope that we have a very successful Farroupilha Week, full of joy, and above all remembering the memory of these two great bastions of traditionalism”, said the mayor who invited everyone to the parade on September 20th that will collect donations for those affected by the floods.
The Farroupilha parade will take place in Sinimbu, starting at 2:30 p.m., and will feature the participation of more than a thousand cavalrymen, as well as floats that will portray aspects of the 1923 Revolution. social media.
Creole Rodeo
Still in this climate of Gaucho culture, the 29th Rodeo Crioulo de Caxias do Sul will take place in the same location, from September 21st to 24th. The event will bring together more than a thousand competitors in roping, riding, reining, among others. There will also be musical shows, dances, a craft fair and typical cuisine.
The Crioulo Rodeio is organized by the Municipality of Caxias do Sul, through the Municipal Department of Culture, in partnership with the 25th Traditionalist Region and CTG Rincão da Lealdade.
Entrance to the Events Park costs R$10.00. Children under 12, MTG members with a card do not pay and Seniors over 65 pay half price. (On-site performances are free).
